What is an MP4 file?
MP4, which stands for MPEG-4 Part 14, is a versatile digital multimedia container format most commonly used to store video and audio. Developed in 2001 by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), it's based on the earlier QuickTime File Format (QTFF) but with additional support for newer features and codecs. The key advantage of MP4 is its flexibility—it can contain video (usually encoded with H.264/AVC or H.265/HEVC), audio (like AAC or MP3), subtitles, and still images, all in a single file. Its widespread adoption is due to its excellent compression efficiency, which provides high-quality video in relatively small file sizes, making it ideal for everything from streaming services and video conferencing to digital downloads and mobile devices. Because it's so widely supported, you can play MP4 files on almost any device or platform without needing special software.
What is a FLAC file?
FLAC, or Free Lossless Audio Codec, is an audio coding format for lossless compression of digital audio. It was developed by Josh Coalson and released in 2001. FLAC is an open-source format and it is freely available for use and distribution. Its main advantage is that it does not discard any audio data during compression, resulting in a higher quality audio experience. FLAC files are significantly smaller than uncompressed audio files like WAV files, while still maintaining the same audio quality. Because it is a lossless format, FLAC files are also fully reversible, meaning that a FLAC file can be decompressed back into its original uncompressed audio format without any loss of quality. It is widely supported by most media players and audio software.
Is there a limit on video file size?
Yes, we currently limit the maximum size of videos to 200 MB per file to ensure fast and efficient processing for all users and to keep enough free space on our servers for other incoming files.
Is there a limit on video duration?
Yes, we currently limit the maximum video duration to 10 minutes (except for video-to-video conversion, which is limited to 1 minute due to the high CPU power required) which covers most use cases and keeps our servers fast and responsive when processing multiple files at once.
